About the Children's Center
The creation of the Children's Center within the J.
Erik Jonsson Central Library is the realization of a
dream for the children of Dallas. Completely funded
by donations from many generous benefactors, it reflects
the Dallas Public Library's commitment to share in the
challenge to ensure a nation of literate and informed
citizens of tomorrow.
The Center encompasses the best of the traditional,
while at the same time focusing on new technologies
used in the fields of learning. It was designed to excite
the imagination of children and to expand their horizons.
An extensive array of books, magazines, books-on-tape
and videocassettes is available for check out. Specially
designed areas for storytelling, puppet shows, and other
programs enhance the child's participation in these
activities. Exhibit areas accommodate changing displays
of interest to children.
Professionally trained librarians and other staff
specializing in work with children through the eighth
grade are available at all times to provide individual
attention to each child seeking assistance.
