Historical BackgroundThe Cecilian Club, organized in 1913, was named after St. Cecilia, patron saint of music and musicians. According to Club bylaws, the organization's objective was the "systematic study of music to stimulate individual effort and elevate the musical taste of the community." Active members were expected to be musicians, soloists, accompanists, or ensemble performers and met a quota for community performance assignments. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe bulk of the collection consists of scrapbooks compiled by members of the Cecilian Club.
