Belo House, Magnolia Building,Old Red Courthouse, as well as districts like Winnetka Heights, South Boulevard, Park Row, and Swiss Avenue are represented, along with many others. Buildings that have been designated as Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks have the notation "(RTHL)" following the name of the property in the finding guide. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark Status means that the building has been recognized by the state for its architecture as well as its history and age

This collection was created through a cooperative effort with the Dallas County Historical Commission. The Texas/Dallas History and Archives Division of the Dallas Public Library began photocopying the Commissions files in 1986. In September 1987, the first phase was completed. Files that were missed and those that are continuing to be added are being copied as the second phase of this project continues. This will be a perpetual process over the years as other markers are designated.
