Historical BackgroundThe Kentucky Club of Dallas was founded in June 1925 by Mrs. Tyree L. Bell, a Kentucky native. The purpose was to gather Dallas women who were of Kentucky origin. The first meeting was attended by 65 women, who gathered to meet Eliza Calvert Hall Obenchain, a Kentucky author who had moved to Dallas. The club combined social functions with fundraising to support the Pine Mountain School in Pippa Passes, Kentucky, now known as Alice Lloyd College.
