Historical BackgroundThe Contemporary House was a furniture store founded by Ethel Gene Pilley and Greta Stogsdill in 1949. Ms. Pilley and Ms. Stogsdill founded the store with money borrowed from friends and acquaintances after they had difficulty finding contemporary style furniture for a house they had built together in 1941.
