NATIONAL ESSAY CONTEST WILL NOW ACCEPT ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONSLetters about Literature, a national essay contest sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and Weekly Reader Corporation, will begin accepting electronic submissions as of November 6. The contest deadline is December 1. Teachers should follow this process in submitting student-written letters to the contest:
1. Save all letters/essays in a word document. Do not create a word document for each student.
2. Each letter should include the student's name and address. Students who do not wish to use their home address may use the address of the school.
3. The teacher should include a cover sheet or transmittal memo indicating the name of the teacher/librarian, the school name and address and telephone number, and the grade level of the students competing.
4. Teachers should send the word document containing all student letters as an attached file to this Email address: lalessay@epix.net.
5. Finally, in the subject line on the Email message, teachers should indicate whether these submissions are for Level I (grades 4-7) or Level II (grades 8-12). If teachers have submissions for both Level I and Level II, they should them in two separate files.
Acknowledgement will be given to all electronic submissions so teachers will know that they have been received by the project director.
