Spanish & English subject headings

What are subject headings?
A subject heading is a word or a group of words (entered on library cataloging records) that indicate the subject of the book, video or other library material. All library material with the same subject heading has information on the same topic. To find information on a topic, search the library catalog by the subject heading for the topic. For example, to find library materials with information on “water supply”, search the library catalog by the subject heading “water supply”.

Why use the list of Spanish subject headings?
Many books in Spanish in the library’s catalog have only English subject headings.

To find books in Spanish that do not have Spanish subject headings in the library catalog, type the English subject heading that is equivalent to the Spanish subject heading in the library catalog search window

(Note: Instructions for using the Spanish-English subject heading list are linked here.)
