Charlie B. Maxvill was born in Columbia, Tennessee 1889 and died June 16, 1983 in Dallas, Texas. Charlie was known by anyone involved with the State Fair of Texas. In interviews Charlie stated he began his concessionaire's career when he was 8 or 9 years old by selling peanuts at the Ringling Brothers Circus. Since that time Charlie B. Maxvill's name was on the longest running concession stand and other activities around Fair Park until his death in 1983.
Charlie B. Maxvill was also involved in Dallas sports. Two items personally owned were the Fair-Way Miniature Golf Course and a partnership in the Dallas Baseball Club, the Texas Steers. Charlie had a great interest in SMU football as well. Golf tournaments both regular and miniature were also favorites.
The Maxvill family is currently on of the three generations of concessionaires. Charlie's sons and grandsons still operate concessions at Fair Park, SMU Football games and other area sports events from high school to college. When the family is not serving people at these events a Café Supply store keeps them busy.
Charlie B. Maxvill loved his work, but most of all he loved the State Fair of Texas. He was one of those Texas tales, a character involved in the shaping of the Fair from food to entertainment.
