BARNES, JIM, RESEARCH MATERIALS

1850S - 2009. Materials donated by Jim Barnes, resident of Stevens Park. An architect by trade, Barnes became curious about the Stevens Park area and conducted research into its history for about a decade. This collection includes articles he wrote as well as materials about the area that he gathered from families living in the community.

Materials include: 14 bound volumes covering different aspects of the area, a research file and a compact disk related to the history of Alexander and Sarah Cockrell and their "White House," Mary Catherine Armstrong's Autograph Album, Armstrong / Stevens family bible, Mary Armstrong Stevens' scrapbook materials, and materials collected from the 1972 fire of the Middlebrook Sister's house on Plymouth Rd and Marydale Ave.

BARRINGTON, G. W., COLLECTION

1920s - 1950s. G. W. (George Whitfield) Barrington was a writer of western (mostly) and historical fiction. He published at least six novels, including Blondy of the Double Star, Red of the Circle G, Outlaws of Badger Hollow, Bandit of Bald Hill, and The Badlands. Barrington published scores of stories in various western magazines, including Double Action Western, Triple-X, Adventure, Complete Stories, and others.

Barrington was born in Nebraska and lived in the Northwest for much of his early life. He joined the merchant marines and fought in the Philippines. He moved to Dallas in 1914 where he lived for most of the remainder of his life. In Dallas, he published many stories, organized and led a fiction writing club, and taught a fiction writing class at Dallas Evening School (later Crozier Tech). He died in 1955. Materials include correspondence, photos, and magazines.
